VIRGINIA VS DIANA

My dear friend Deb recommended the book, I'm Old, You're Old, Get Used To It by Virginia Ironside.  It is a wonderful book and Ms. Ironside is pretty much dead on in her commentary about aging, please excuse the pun.  However, I can see a Julie & Julia type of relationship between the author and myself as aging, along with cooking, depends on the cook.  I neither cook nor age well so I have a different, less positive perspective on aging.  I do NOT enjoy this one little bit and can find nothing positive about it, and I'm ONLY 56 soon to be 57!

The way my life unfolded, some within my control some not, I did not stick to the same job for 30 years or marry rich (in fact, I almost never married).  Therefore, I am in no position to retire and watch my time fill in with midday naps (which I wouldn't do anyway), luncheons with my friend Deb (who was able to retire), book clubs, grandchildren, committees (Commit? Yikes!), and ironing (Virginia's book).  Quite honestly, I'm not at all sure I will ever be able to retire.  With my lack of attention span, however, that's probably a good thing.  I'm terribly sorry Virginia.  I love your book, really.
